Lorain is dealing with a heartbreaking tragedy after two teenagers were shot and killed during a gathering at a short-term rental home.

Lorain Police say officers were called to the 700 block of Washington Avenue around 3 a.m. for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old suffering from gunshot wounds. Sadly, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the teens had been attending a gathering at the rental when an argument reportedly escalated into gunfire.

Police arrested a 19-year-old man at the scene, who is now facing multiple charges. Detectives also recovered several firearms, shell casings and other physical evidence as part of the investigation.

Police believe this was an isolated incident and say there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains active.

Our thoughts are with the families, friends and everyone affected by this devastating loss.

There was a tense situation at Elyria High School after the Elyria Police Department responded to a reported bomb threat.

Officers secured the area and asked residents and drivers to stay away while they investigated. Fortunately, the school had not yet opened for the 2026–27 school year, all faculty members were accounted for and no injuries were reported.

After a thorough search and investigation, authorities cleared the building and determined it was safe for occupancy. Nearby roads were reopened, and police said there was no danger to the public.

The case isn't over, though. Investigators are now working to determine who was responsible for making the threat and say they'll pursue charges.

Elyria Police thanked the Lorain County Sheriff's Office, Elyria Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance and responding officers for helping handle the situation.

Anyone who may have information about the threat is being encouraged to contact Elyria Police.

Keep an eye on the roads if you're heading out, because severe weather continues to cause problems in parts of Ohio.

Ohio Department of Transportation crews have been working to clear affected roads and place barricades where closures are necessary.

The biggest reminder for drivers is an important one: never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. Even if the water doesn't look particularly deep, conditions can be deceiving and dangerous.

Before heading out, drivers can check OHGO for real-time information on road conditions, closures, crashes and other travel issues.

With conditions capable of changing quickly during severe weather, giving yourself a little extra time and checking your route before leaving could save you a major headache — or keep you out of a dangerous situation altogether.

It was a proud day in Lorain as community members and local leaders gathered at City Hall for the raising of the Puerto Rican flag.

The ceremony celebrated a heritage that has deep roots throughout Lorain. For generations, Puerto Rican families have played an important role in shaping the city — from local businesses and public service to the workforce, arts, food, music and community organizations.

The flag raising wasn't just about recognizing history. It was also a celebration of the families who continue keeping Puerto Rican traditions and culture alive throughout Lorain today.

It's another reminder that Lorain's identity has been built by generations of people from different backgrounds who have made the city home.

Families in Sheffield Lake will soon have another spot to beat the summer heat!

Construction is underway on the city's new splash pad, and the project is beginning to take shape as crews continue making progress.

Once finished, the splash pad will give local kids and families another place to get outside, cool down and have some fun close to home — something that's especially welcome during those hot Northeast Ohio summer days.
