TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK
🚨 Elyria Police Shoot Armed Suspect During Standoff at Bridge Pointe Commons

A tense situation in Elyria ended with an armed man being shot by police following a lengthy standoff at Bridge Pointe Commons on East Bridge Street.
Officers responded to the 330 block of East Bridge Street last Wednesday morning after reports of an uncooperative resident. Police, tactical officers, firefighters, and EMS arrived at the scene while authorities worked to negotiate a peaceful resolution.
East Bridge Street was restricted, and residents were asked to avoid the area.
Around 3:30 p.m., the standoff came to an end when officers encountered the armed suspect and opened fire.
Police have since identified the man as 46-year-old JR Flowers, who was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. According to the latest update, Flowers is in stable condition and remains hospitalized.
Thankfully, no officers or other civilians were injured during the incident.
The officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave, and charges against Flowers are pending until after his release from the hospital.
The Lorain Police Department is handling the independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Elyria Police say they won't release additional details while that investigation continues.
🏗️ Nearly 350 Acres at Lorain County Airport Going Up for Sale
Big changes could be coming to the area surrounding Lorain County Airport in New Russia Township.
County commissioners are moving forward with plans to sell nearly 350 acres of airport property, hoping to attract new industry, create jobs, and generate additional tax revenue.
The land, located north of the airport runway, is expected to be listed at $75,000 per acre.
Commissioner Dave Moore says the property has been zoned for industrial development since 1963, and the sale could help strengthen the county's finances while supporting improvements at the airport.
The Federal Aviation Administration previously authorized the sale of approximately 218 acres purchased with federal funds. Another 106 acres didn't require FAA approval.
Under the arrangement, approximately $18,000 to $19,000 per acre sold would go toward airport improvements, potentially including a longer runway capable of accommodating larger aircraft.
But not everyone is celebrating.
Some nearby residents worry industrial development could bring more noise, traffic, and disruption to the area's peaceful, rural character. Those concerns come alongside ongoing opposition to a separate proposed 1,000-acre high-tech development nearby.
County leaders believe new investment could expand the tax base without raising taxes, while neighbors are hoping for a solution that protects their quality of life.
What ultimately gets built remains uncertain, although officials expect future development could complement the aviation industry.
This is definitely a project worth watching.
⚠️ Scam Alert: Police Warn Residents About Suspicious Calls and Payment Demands

Here's an important reminder for everyone around Lorain County: Scammers are getting creative, and they're counting on people acting before they have time to think.
Local authorities are warning residents about suspicious phone calls and messages from people pretending to represent legitimate businesses or government agencies.
One of the biggest red flags? Someone demanding payment through gift cards, Bitcoin ATMs, or even cash and gold left in a box for pickup.
Another warning sign is when a caller insists you stay on the phone, pressures you to act immediately, or tells you not to discuss the transaction with anyone else.
Legitimate organizations may contact you by phone, but you should never assume an unexpected caller is who they claim to be.
If something doesn't sound right, hang up and independently contact the organization using a phone number you know is legitimate.
And remember, scammers can make their calls appear to come from official phone numbers, so caller ID alone isn't proof.
A few extra minutes of caution could save you or someone you love from losing thousands of dollars.

🙏 Missing Girl Found Safe After Community Search in Lorain

Some good news to share this week!
A missing girl has been found safe after being located walking in Lorain by Metro Parks Rangers, according to the Sheffield Lake Police Department.
The search brought together several local agencies and community members who worked to help locate her.
Sheffield Lake Police thanked the Lorain Police Department, Lorain Metro Parks, SRO Pool, and residents who assisted with the effort.
While additional details about the circumstances weren't released, the most important news is that the girl was found safe.
It's always encouraging to see local law enforcement, park rangers, and neighbors come together when someone in our community needs help.
A big thank-you to everyone who played a part in bringing this situation to a positive conclusion! ❤️
♻️ More Than 2,500 Tires Collected During Lorain County Recycling Event

Here's a pretty impressive number: more than 2,500 tires were collected during Lorain County's recent Agricultural Tire Collection event!
And we're not just talking about regular car tires.
The collection included everything from large agricultural tires and semi-truck tires to everyday passenger vehicle tires, all gathered for proper processing rather than being improperly dumped or sent to a landfill.
Events like this are especially important because discarded tires can create environmental problems, collect standing water that attracts mosquitoes, and become an eyesore when left in fields or along roadsides.
By giving residents and agricultural businesses a convenient way to dispose of old tires responsibly, the county is helping keep our communities cleaner.
A big shout-out to everyone who organized the event and to the residents and businesses who took the time to participate.
That's 2,500-plus tires that won't be cluttering up our beautiful Lorain County countryside! 🌳
💙 Titan Nation Raises More Than $3,200 for Local Students

Here's a little community generosity worth celebrating!
Lorain City Schools raised $3,219.51 during this year's Connect to a Cause campaign, thanks to donations and support from the Titan Nation community.
The money will help support opportunities for local students and schools, giving the district additional resources to make a difference in students' educational experiences.
The campaign's success came from residents, families, staff, and supporters who donated, shared information, and encouraged others to get involved.
And while $3,219 might not sound like a huge number compared to some fundraising campaigns, every dollar represents someone in the community stepping up to help local kids.
It's another reminder that when Lorain comes together for its students, good things happen.
Congratulations to everyone involved, and thanks to all who helped make this year's campaign a success! 🎉
