TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK

🚧 More Than 80 Speeding Tickets Issued in I-90 Construction Zone

If you've driven through the I-90 construction zone lately, you're not alone in noticing a heavier police presence. In just four days, officers handed out more than 80 speeding tickets in the work zone, highlighting an ongoing safety concern for both drivers and road crews.

Since the beginning of the year, authorities have issued 157 speeding citations in the area, with one driver clocked at a staggering 103 mph. Officials are reminding motorists that construction workers are out there every day trying to do their jobs and return home safely to their families.

With construction season in full swing across Lorain County, it's a good reminder to slow down, stay alert, and give workers the space they need to stay safe.

💜 No Charges Filed in Crash That Killed North Ridgeville Teen

Authorities have announced that the driver involved in the November 2025 crash that claimed the life of 16-year-old North Ridgeville student Violet Gustafson will not face charges. After completing their investigation, officials determined the driver was not at fault in the collision at Lorain and Lear Nagle roads.

The tragic crash deeply impacted the North Ridgeville community, and many residents continue to remember Violet and support her family. While the investigation has concluded, the incident has renewed conversations about traffic safety and whether additional pedestrian crossing improvements may be needed along Lorain Road.

For many local families, the hope is that lessons learned from this tragedy can help prevent similar accidents in the future.

🔥 Deck Fire Causes Heavy Damage to Lorain Home

A fire caused significant damage to a home on Lorain's west side after flames reportedly started on a deck and quickly spread into the first floor and attic. When firefighters arrived, the blaze had already gained considerable ground, prompting assistance from crews with the Elyria Fire Department.

Thankfully, firefighters were able to bring the situation under control before the fire spread to neighboring homes. No additional homes were damaged, thanks to the quick response from emergency crews.

The incident also serves as an important safety reminder as summer grilling season gets underway. Fire officials urge residents not to use grills or smokers on decks or within 10 feet of a house, helping reduce the risk of fires spreading to homes.
